Swami Virajeshwara Saraswati

Brahmanista Shrotriya Parama Poojya Gurudeva Swami Virajeshwara Saraswati

The scientist became a sage

Poojya Gurudeva Swami Virajeshwara Saraswati gave up a highly decorated job as a scientist in the USA and came home determined to realize the Truth. Hailing from Udupi district of coastal Karnataka, Swami Virajeshwara Saraswati completed His education in Mumbai and obtained Ph.D. in polymer physics from Rutgers State University of New Jersey in 1963. He worked as an instructor in paediatrics in the medical college of State University of New York in Brooklyn from 1964 to 1965. In April 1965, He joined IBM as a scientist in its R&D lab, in New York and worked in the advanced development of electronic circuits for future computers.

As a sadhak, Gurudeva learned pranayama, asanas and practiced Rama Mantra Japa. Through intense Vairagya (Dispassion), Gurudeva renounced everything and returned to India in 1971 and went to Rishikesh in search of Truth. This search led Him to Guru Swami Vidyananda Saraswati, a rare incognito Brahma Jnani. Gurudeva learned Upanishads, Brahma Sutra and Bhagavad Gita and followed it up with intense sravana, manana and nididhyasana. The foretaste and culmination in Atma sākshātkāra are captured vividly in the book ‘Scientist’s Search for Truth’.

Gurudeva established “Hamsa Ashramam'' for genuine seekers in Anusonai, near Kelamangalam off Hosur in 1998 and authored many more books: Science of Bhagavadgita, Know your Reality- Part I and II, Ultimate Truth, Sadhana and Meditation; Rebirth.

Gurudeva took Mahasamadhi on 31st May 2014. The Guru Parampara  continues to guide genuine seekers.
